Our Learning Objectives:



  • Identify and Challenge Stigmatizing Beliefs: Participants will be able to recognize common misconceptions about sex work and differentiate between consensual sex work and human trafficking, fostering a more respectful and accurate understanding of the sex work community.

  • Implement Sex Worker-Affirmative Practices: Participants will learn to apply sex-positive, trauma-informed, and harm-reduction approaches in their clinical work, effectively supporting the unique mental health needs of sex workers.

  • Enhance Cultural Competency: Participants will develop skills to provide culturally competent care by understanding the diverse motivations, life patterns, and challenges faced by sex workers, ensuring a non-judgmental and supportive therapeutic environment.

Richard Tyler-Walker

PhD, LCMHC-S

Dr. Richard Tyler-Walker earned an Education Specialist degree from James Madison University in community agency counseling with a focus on couples counseling. He later completed a PhD in counselor education from North Carolina State University, and has been a professional counselor for 25 years.
Richard has a clear focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as a strong appreciation for individuals with bicultural identities and third culture kids. He seeks to use his training and experience, both as a gay man and a helping professional, to become an intentional advocate for all communities.
